Police have appealed to the public for information following the death of a nine-year-old boy in Brixham yesterday, Sunday, 28 January.
Police were called to Glenmore Road at 6.20pm after a report that a man and child had been seen walking in the area, with the child appearing unwell.
Devon and Cornwall Police state that emergency services attended a nearby address where the child was located, emergency first aid was given before taking the boy to hospital where he was later confirmed deceased. The death is being treated as unexplained.
A 47-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of child neglect and remains in police custody.
Detective Inspector Jen Rose says anyone in Drew Street, Penn Lane, Castor Road, Greenswood Road and Bolton Street between 5pm and 7pm may have witnessed the incident, and some people had tried to speak to the man and the child.
