Ted Head, Managing Director of CSS Group, said: “For a number of years we have been exploring options to meet the needs of our growing companies which currently occupy two company-owned factories with a floor space of 3,000 square metres. The construction of this new manufacturing facility provides us with an opportunity to relocate to a larger space and continue to deliver innovative products and solutions for our UK and international clients. Currently, we deliver to 25 countries worldwide and we foresee continued growth from our European and other overseas partners for our products and technical services.”

Construction of the new facility has begun, and the site will be finished and ready for the CSS Group to use at the start of 2021.

From this facility, CSS will expand its market share globally. Currently, 25% of the overall group sales are exported; in the toolmaking division 50% of tools made by CSS are exported to customers in North and Central America. The CSS Group are official tier-one suppliers to Rolls Royce Gas Turbines and other World-renowned companies. CSS provides complex tooling, technical mouldings and composite components, for mechanical handling systems and many engineering sectors including aerospace and defence. The Group continues to explore opportunities in emerging technologies to position themselves in new markets and accommodate future growth.

CSS look forward to future investment within Torbay and to the continued development of their Apprentice scheme and Student Apprenticeships, in conjunction with local schools, colleges and universities, in order to provide skilled engineers and technical support for future growth.

James Head, Technical Director at CSS Group, said: “The move into this new facility will help our business continue to grow at the same 20% PA that we have achieved over the past 5 years. We have a number of exciting new projects in conjunction with both our international and domestic customers that we are looking to deliver over the next few years and the extra space for equipment and employees will enable us to achieve this.”

Councillor Swithin Long, Torbay Council Cabinet Member for Economic Regeneration, Tourism and Housing, said: “It is great to see an ambitious local company, with high growth potential, benefitting from investment and regeneration in Torbay. The investment at Claylands sits alongside the Electronics and Photonics Innovation Centre and other recent developments to provide new, high-quality employment space, which will create new jobs and boost the local economy. This will help Torbay businesses like CSS grow and remain internationally competitive.”

The new development is funded by £2.04M of the Heart of the South West Local Enterprise Partnership’s (HotSW LEP) Unlocking Growth Funding and an £8M investment in the site by Torbay Council.

Karl Tucker, Chair of the Heart of the South West Local Enterprise Partnership, said: “Claylands Business Park is an excellent project and an ideal investment for our Unlocking Growth Fund, which is investing in projects across Devon, Plymouth, Somerset and Torbay that will provide valuable business space for a range of sectors to generate local growth.”
