This month the 1st Marldon Scouts started their training for the Master at Arms Activity Badge.
With Jim, the instructor from Newton Abbot Fencing Club, the scouts learnt about the importance of warming up before the activity, wearing the correct protective equipment and learnt about the swords the foil, epee and sabre,
Before we started Cameron said “that he was looking forward to the evening and thought that fencing was extremely good fun.” Later he said that he found “the instructor was very knowledgeable and helpful. I can’t wait till the next session”
After being paired up the Scouts got into the fencing safety jackets, chest protectors and face masks and gloves. They practiced the way to advance and attack. How to stand when “On Guard” and how to Parry the opponents attack.
At the end of the evening Oakley and Zane both said that “they enjoyed learning about fencing, it was great fun and they liked using the swords”
Tallulah said that “I have really enjoyed this scout evening. Although the masks were heavy to wear I have liked using equipment and the epee’s and the best move that I have learnt was the Lunge.”
