Torbay residents will be able to book more slots at the Recycling Centre in Tor Park Road, Paignton from this Saturday 26th September.
It’s the latest improvement to the service since SWISCo – a new company wholly owned by Torbay Council – took over took over running a range of frontline services, including waste and recycling services, for Torbay residents. It also comes during national Recycling Week (21 – 27 September).
From Saturday, the site will be open 9am to 4pm and residents will be able to book ten minute slots, up to four weeks in advance. Residents are advised to book their slot via the Torbay Council website because phone lines can be very busy, particularly on Mondays.
Councillor Mike Morey, Cabinet Member for Infrastructure, Environment and Culture, said: “We’re very pleased to be able to extend the opening hours of the Recycling Centre on Saturdays and it is timely that we have been able to do this during national Recycling Week as we really want to do all we can to encourage residents to recycle as much as possible.
“Don’t forget it’s much easier and quicker to book online, and you can also take your garden waste to the Recycling Centre.”
Remember, when you’re at the recycling centre:
– No more than two people per vehicle
– Stay two metres apart where possible
– You will need to dispose of your own waste
– Please respect our staff and keep your distance
– Vans should only bring the same quantity as would fit in a family car.
– Trailers are allowed but only for garden waste.
You can book a slot on the Torbay Council website here https://www.torbay.gov.uk/recycling/recycling-centre/
A spokesperson for Torbay Council added: “Please note that in order to give as many people the opportunity to use the Recycling Centre as possible (currently the centre is used by up to 3,000 people a week) but also keep everyone safe and maintain COVID-19 safety restrictions we are still currently limiting residents to two visits to the Recycling Centre per 28 days. We are keeping this under constant review.
“Due to the continuing Covid-19 restrictions staff are being prioritised to fulfil the statutory service of recycling and waste collections from households. This is why currently the Recycling centre is not being opened on Sundays, but this is being continually reviewed in light of ever changing Covid-19 regulations.”
