Teignbridge residents are being encouraged to sign up to a new, secure online personal account with the added benefits of helping to reduce costs through going paperless and contributing to tackling climate issues.
Details of how to sign up to MyAccount are accompanying this year’s annual distribution of council tax bills across Teignbridge.
The new online service gives Teignbridge residents the chance to securely view and pay their council tax account, check their benefit claims and see when their next housing benefit payment is due, sign up for e-billing, and access a whole range of other council services, any time, day or night.
Not only is MyAccount a smarter, greener, faster way of dealing with these important matters, it also makes life simpler for customers, more environmentally friendly by reducing the amount of paper used for bills and cuts the council’s postal costs which contributes to keeping down the Teignbridge element of the council tax.
Leaflets accompanying the council tax bills explain the benefits and provides the links to set up the account. People who registered in recent months on line for the garden waste collection service will find they can now access a wider range of services as a result of MyAccount.
Those who set up a 24/7 MyAccount benefit from: viewing installments due, seeing payments made, checking account balance, making payments using a debit or credit card, updating personal and contact details, choosing whether to receive newsletters of interest, tracking the progress of any service requests and accessing other council services.
Portfolio holder for Corporate Resources Cllr Alan Connett said: “This initiative is a real win for local residents, the council and the planet. Setting up an account is really simple and gives residents 24/7 access to their council affairs meaning they can manage their account and request services at times convenient to them.
“If customers sign up for e-billing this will reduce postal costs freeing up funds for essential services. By reducing paper bills that we send out at this time of year, it will help save trees and contribute to tackling the climate emergency.
“Why would anyone not want to sign up? Over 14,000 people have already done so and I urge others to go to Teignbridge.gov.uk, sign up to MyAccount and make their lives a little simpler.”
