New staff appointed to Torre Abbey with National Trust, RAMM and TATE experience

A new Museum Manager, with a background in managing National Trust properties, and a Collections and Business Support Officer, with experience in roles at the Royal Albert Memorial Museum (RAMM) and TATE Britain have been appointed by Torbay Council to work at Torre Abbey.

Torre Abbey Museum Manager, Lucinda Heron has previously worked in a number of roles for the National Trust including Operations Manager for Overbeck’s, and House & Collections Manager for Castle Drogo during a multimillion pound conservation project.

With a BA (Hons) in Heritage Management, Lucinda has held a variety of posts in historic houses and museums and has led a number of developmental projects in museums, heritage and arts. She has a strong interest in social history and much of her work has focused on collections and care interpretation.

Torre Abbey Museum Manager, Lucinda Heron, said: “I worked at Torre Abbey around ten years ago and have always loved the mix of this fascinating historic building with a collection of incredible and beautiful artwork and artefacts.

“We are extremely lucky to have such a special museum in Torbay and it is great to be part of the Abbey’s passionate team. I thoroughly enjoyed my National Trust roles and am looking forward to a new adventure at Torre Abbey.”

After working at TATE Britain for seven years, Collections and Business Support Officer, Carol Anderson, relocated back to Devon join the Visitor Services team at RAMM.

Collections and Business Support Officer, Carol Anderson, said: “I really enjoyed my roles at the TATE and RAMM and see this as a brilliant opportunity to work closely with the wonderful collection at the Abbey.”

Carol currently works three days a week at Torre Abbey and is currently working two days a week as Digitisation Coordinator at The Devon and Exeter Institution.

Director of Place, Kevin Mowat, said: “We welcome the appointments of Lucinda and Carol. They bring with them a wealth of experience and knowledge which perfectly complements the team at the Abbey.”
