Literature-loving Newton Abbot shoppers have raised£30,000 for three life-saving charities.
For the past 12 years, retired Tesco colleagues have been running a bookstall at the Newton Abbot Superstore each Friday to raise funds for Cancer Research UK, the British Heart Foundation and Diabetes UK.
The initiative supports Tesco’s Health Charity Partnership campaign, which raises money for the three charities so that they can continue their vital work to improve and save lives.
Janette Parker, the store’s Community Champion, said: “Our selfless former colleagues have been selling second-hand books donated by Tesco customers for all these years, and to now reach the landmark figure of £30,000 is fantastic.
“The money raised is divided between the charities so that they can use it to fund research that helps to improve treatments for the diseases.
“I would like to thank all our generous customers and colleagues who have supported the bookstall.
“I’m looking forward to seeing how much more money it can raise for these three incredible charities.”
In addition to the funds being raised, Tesco’s Health Charity Partnership campaign aims to increase awareness about the importance of making sustainable lifestyle changes that can help people to lower the impact of cancer, heart and circulatory diseases, and diabetes.
