Skilled staff at a Totnes store are celebrating after receiving recognition for their role as a leading local employer.
The Specsavers store on Fore Street was presented with a Platinum Employer award after demonstrating an excellent track record in developing career opportunities for employees.
This is a high achievement for the store, which only opened in June of this year, providing state-of-the-art equipment and testing rooms to people in the South Hams.
Karen Stone, store director at Specsavers Totnes, says: ‘Everyone here is delighted and proud to receive Platinum status, and we’ll continue to build on the skills of all our staff for the future.
‘Our staff are dedicated and hard-working, and we are pleased to give them continued training opportunities that advance their careers and give our customers the best possible service.’
The Platinum Employer accreditation measures five benchmarks of the employee experience, including talent management, recruitment and induction, and performance management and reward.
Matt Morgan, Specsavers’ regional relationship manager, says: ‘This is an amazing achievement for everyone at Totnes’s store.
‘The directors’ skills and experience in providing opportunities for members of staff have resulted in a modern store that is a credit to the town.’
The Platinum Employer scheme is part of Specsavers’ training and development programme, aimed at helping staff to benefit from a range of opportunities.
The store has a hospital-quality optical coherence tomography machine, which enables trained staff to examine patients’ eyes in more detail than ever before.
In addition, patients are able to have free hearing tests with qualified audiology professionals, as well as help and advice about contact lenses and DVLA eye-testing.
