For the fourth year running Torbay Youth Service and Torbay Young Carers Service will be putting on their Christmas party for young people who may not get the opportunity to experience a Christmas meal this year.
Parkfield Youth Centre will be playing host to 80 young people aged 8 to 19 for a day of festive fun on Saturday 19 December 2015. A Christmas dinner will also be cooked and served to the young people by youth workers and staff who are based at the centre.
The Parkfield Xtreme Radio group are broadcasting live from the party which will have creative arts and crafts once again being delivered by the Imagine multicultural group and party games, using the mats kindly loaned from the South Devon Gymnastics Club.
Councillor Julien Parrott, Executive Lead for Adults and Children, said: “I am looking forward to being at Parkfield on Saturday and being able to help provide a festive filed day for young people who may not be experiencing a Christmas meal this year. The staff have worked hard to put together this wonderful and well needed event and along with the very generous donations being provided by local businesses and organisations, this day has been made possible.
“For these young people, some who are homeless, this may be the only opportunity for them to have a Christmas meal due to their parents not being in a position to provide or cook for them. The staff from Parkfield and those who support the young carers are great positive role models for these young people and events like this help to show them they are not along and people are here to help and support them.”
Thanks go to Riverford Farm for providing organic vegetables; the Paignton and Newton Abbot branches of Tesco for providing a voucher and a number of cooked chickens; the Paignton branch of Sainsbury’s for donating a voucher; Asda in Paignton for donating food towards the Christmas meal; the Rotary Club of Preston for donating money; Trago Mills for a voucher and Launa Windows who have donated two Torquay United match day tickets as a prize.
