Pension Credit Reminder as Cost-of-Living Deadline Nears

There is only a day left to claim Pension Credit and qualify for the first £301 Cost of Living Payment of 2023.

Pension Credit provides a vital income for our most vulnerable pensioners, worth more than £3,500 per year on average. Provided a claim is made before Friday 19 May 2023, it can be backdated for up to three months, meaning those who apply before this date will receive the £301 first cost of living payment if their claim is successful.

Someone may still get Pension Credit if they:

-have not paid National Insurance contributions
-have some savings or a small pension
-live with their grown-up family
own their own home

An award of Pension Credit can provide access to a range of other benefits such as help with housing costs, council tax, heating bills and for those aged 75 or over, a free TV licence.

Torbay’s MP Kevin Foster is urging those over State Pension Age to check if they could be eligible for Pension Credit, ahead of Friday’s deadline for receiving the first cost of living payment. Commenting, he said: “The first cost of living payment has already made a difference to many pensioners feeling the squeeze across our bay, yet there are still some missing out on it and the support Pension Credit could be providing. It’s easy to check your eligibility online or on the phone and could provide a much-needed financial boost.”

If you (or someone you know) are over State Pension Age and feeling the squeeze do check out Pension Credit. It’s easy to check your eligibility for Pension Credit online via the Pension Credit Calculator: https://www.gov.uk/pension-credit-calculator or by calling 0800 99 1234.
