Person dies after being hit by a train near Dawlish

Update: All lines are now open.

A person has died after being hit by a train near Dawlish this evening, 21st June.

The incident happened between Dawlish Warren and Dawlish at around 6pm.

Emergency services remain at the scene.

There are delays on trains between Exeter and Plymouth.

Some services have been cancelled, others have been revised or delayed.

An update on www.nationalrail.co.uk states:

“A person has been hit by a train between Exeter St Davids and Plymouth and all lines are blocked. Trains between Exeter St Davids and Paignton / Plymouth may be delayed by up to 60 minutes, revised or cancelled until approximately 21:00.

“CrossCountry customers may use Great Western Railway services on any reasonable routes. Great Western Railway customers may use CrossCountry services between Bristol Temple Meads and Penzance and South West Trains on any reasonable route. You may also use Stagecoach Buses on routes 2, 2A, 11, 12, X38 55, 55A and 55B,”

People on the train that hit the person have been unable to leave the train. One person tweeted:

Passengers have now been transferred to another train.
