A major partnership between a regional conservation charity and a leading games manufacturer is bringing a new version of an old favourite to the region.
Paignton Zoo and Winning Moves, the international company behind family favourites like Monopoly and Cluedo, are launching a special version of long-time favourite Top Trumps.
The card game means guests can pit Zoo animals against each other – learning and discovering as they go. Zoo spokesperson Phil Knowling said: “We’re the only zoo in the South West to have the Top Trumps trail. No one else has ever done it like this – we’re putting huge cards around the Zoo for people to find!”
The trail, launched for the Easter holidays, is fun, interactive and has a conservation learning element. Guests buy a Super Top Trumps Card when they arrive at the Zoo; each card comes with a trail activity sheet with instructions on how to play and space to record results. There are twelve giant cards around the Zoo for guests to discover.
There are 6 different Super Top Trumps Cards to collect. Each card contains amazing facts and figures about that animal, such as height, weight and strength.
“You compare the stats on your Super Top Trumps Card to the giant trail cards and whoever has the highest rating wins. For example, if you compare the strength on a rhino card with a trail card featuring a tortoise, then you will win, as the rating on your card will be higher.”
Guests then hand in their trail sheets as they leave the Zoo. There will be an online table of top scores and everyone who returns a trail sheet will be entered into a monthly prize draw.
Packs of special Paignton Zoo Top Trump cards are on sale in the Zoo shop. Top Trumps has been around since the 1970s and remains very popular today. Top Trumps cards are collector items, with limited and special edition packs on offer. Paignton Zoo is a registered charity. For more information go to www.paigntonzoo.org.uk or ring 01803 697500.
