Officers investigating a commercial burglary at a lock-up unit in Newton Abbot are appealing for witnesses and information following an early morning incident that left two police officers injured.
Police were alerted around 4am on Tuesday, 3 September, after reports of five individuals attempting to gain access to storage containers at a site on West Golds Way. In a reckless attempt to escape when police arrived, the occupants rammed two police vehicles with a van, causing significant damage before abandoning the van on site.
The white van is believed to have contained stolen items. Fortunately, the two officers involved sustained only minor injuries during the incident. After abandoning the van, the suspects fled the scene in a black Audi A5, registration LP11 YSR.
In response to the incident, police cordoned off the container site to conduct thorough investigative work. Authorities have expressed gratitude to the owners of the lock-up units for their understanding and patience during this ongoing investigation, whilst unable to access their property.
Police are conducting extensive enquiries to locate the suspects. They are urging anyone who may have witnessed the events or has any information that could assist in the investigation to come forward.
Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the police by calling 101 or visiting their website, quoting log 75 of 3 September.
