Police have appealed for witnesses and information following reports of an assault and sexual assault in Torquay at the weekend.
Police are investigating the incident which was reported to have taken place between midnight and 3am on Sunday 20th January in the area of The Terrace.
The victim, a woman in hers 20s, is currently being supported by specialist officers.
Detective Sergeant Claire Brown said: “We’re currently investigating reports of an assault and sexual assault that took place in Torquay on Sunday. Enquires are ongoing to establish the circumstances of the incident.
“The victim sustained multiple injuries as a result of the incident and was taken to Torbay hospital for treatment.
“We would appeal for anyone who was in the area of The Terrace between midnight and 3am on Sunday 20 January and saw anything suspicious to contact police.
“I’d also be keen to speak to anyone in the area with CCTV or dashcam footage which may assist with our investigation.
A 19-year-old man from Torquay was arrested on suspicion of attempted rape. He was later released under investigation pending further enquires.
