Police in Dartmouth have warned local business of ‘ringing the changes’ scam following an incident in Dartmouth on Saturday (19th December)
The incident happened at Mccolls, The Quay, Dartmouth. Police said on social media:
“2 males of middle eastern appearance went in to Mccolls The Quay Dartmouth on the morning of 19/12/15. They were ‘ringing the changes’.
“This where they attempt to change a handful of £10 notes for £20 and then try to keep changing the notes until they have confused the cashier and gained a substantial amount of money”
The men were described as follows:
Male 1 was wearing black leather jacket, blue jeans, short black hair.
Male 2 was wearing a green baseball cap, black leather jacket… and beige coloured trouser.
Police have advised business to call 999 for police attendance if anyone attempts to do this in your shop.
