Police have warned the public after a schoolgirl stopped by a driver in Bovey Tracey and asked for lift

At approximately 6.10pm on Wednesday evening (30 November) a 12 year old girl was walking along Pottery Road, Bovey Tracey – close to the House of Marbles – when a dark blue ‘long’ car, possibly an estate car, pulled up nearby, a short distance away from the girl.

It is understood the male driver got out of the car and asked the girl if she wanted a lift.  The girl then ran away, to a nearby friend’s house.

The driver is described as a bald man around 5ft 10ins tall, of medium build who was wearing a short sleeved shirt, with what has been described as having ‘sleeve tattoos’ on both arms.

A police spokesperson said: “Naturally we are concerned about this report and we would like to identify this person. We would encourage people not to be overly alarmed but to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour by calling 999.”

If anyone has any information about this incident or the possible identity of this man, please either email 101@dc.police.uk or call 101 quoting log 747 of 30 November 2016.  Alternatively contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
