Pop Up the High Street is a brand new initiative designed to give entrepreneurs operating in the Torbay area a chance to run their own retail outlet for just £30 a week.
It is hoped that the new project will support existing and new businesses who wish to try retail as a way of growing their business in a prime location without the usual overheads.
The Coastal Communities Funded project, which is being delivered by TDA, has two elements. It will support the development of the high street through a Pop Up Shop and provide business support direct to existing retailers.
The shop, which is due to open in September, is expected to house up to 4 businesses at a time and support 45 separate businesses over the life of the project. It will be located in a prime retail position in Torquay.
Carl Wyard, TDA’s Economy and Enterprise Manager, said: “Pop Up the High Street offers a rare opportunity for new or online only retailers to experience life on the high street for up to six weeks. Our pop up shop offers all inclusive affordable space for just £30 a week, along with support from our expert business advisors to help you plan out your business for the future.”
Previous experience of running a shop is not needed, but it is expected that those already operating online businesses from home, using social media, would be highly suited to this type of experience.
If you want to see what life on the high street can offer your retail business please visit our website www.torbaydevelopmentagency.co.uk/projects/torbay-wide-projects/pop-up-the-high-street where you can find the guidance and apply online.
Businesses will be notified within two weeks if their application has been successful and the TDA will arrange for a meeting with one of their business advisors to discuss next steps.
