Aspiring super-chefs at Highweek Community Primary & Nursery School have had their new educational kitchen kitted out by kind-hearted colleagues at a Newton Abbot store.
The school’s pupils and staff are looking forward to seeing thekitchen completed so it can provide lessons focusing on nutritious meals for students to taste, as well as giving them a culinary education and community engagement.
However, the kitchen has been short of various utensils, so the school approached Tesco’s Newton Road store to see if it could help.
The store happily agreed, providing a wide range of kitchenimplements and bowls so the students can cook up a storm.
Tracy Lowe, the school’s Administration Manager, visited thestore to thank staff and collect the donation.
She said: “We’re really grateful to Tesco for this batch of cooking utensils. They will directly impact the quality of the educational opportunities we can offer our pupils.
“The kitchen will help in the health and wellbeing of our students, as well as supporting our mission to foster a love for cooking and nutrition education.”
Janette Parker Tesco, the store’s Community Champion, was on hand to present the items to Tracy when she went along.
Janette said: “We’re thrilled to be able to help the pupils of Highweek Community Primary & Nursery School in this waybecause it’s so important that children learn about the benefits of good nutrition.
“It’s a critical part of health and development, giving us all stronger immune systems, lowering the risk of diseases such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease, and improving longevity.
“On top of that, it’s proven that healthy children learn better, so learning about nutrition and having a good diet will have a positive effect on their education.”
