Red Earth Opera will be returning to the Palace Theatre in Paignton on Sunday 7th May with a gala concert of opera arias and choruses to raise the spirits and cheer the hearts. Appropriately for the Coronation weekend, the theme of the concert will be Kings and Crowns.
Red Earth Opera was formed in 2013 by local performers and musicians looking for opportunities to sing and play opera in Devon.
Jane Anderson-Brown Director says: ‘We started from a base of nothing – no funds, just enthusiasm and determination. Our singers and players are drawn from Devon, Somerset and Cornwall (and beyond) and range in age from under 18 up to past retirement. We also offer places in the orchestra and chorus to talented young musicians from Torbay and south Devon. Our aim is to present affordable opera …which is approachable and enjoyable. We also want to give performers opportunities at all levels.’
Kings and Crowns is a concert of opera pops to celebrate the King’s Coronation and promises to be a joyous and uplifting contribution to the Coronation celebrations, and an evening of sublime and beautiful music. The gala concert with orchestra and chorus will celebrate royalty and nobility and include such favourites as ‘Nessun Dorma’ and ‘Take a Pair of Sparkling Eyes’.
