The developer behind the Langford Bridge development in Newton Abbot has once again shown its support for a local football club.
Persimmon Homes South West donated £2,000 to Buckland Athletic FC, who are based next door to the site, which follows another donation of the same amount made in 2023.
The club, established in 1977, play in the Western League Premier Division where they are currently competing to finish the season in the top five.
They also have a venue facility at the ground that can be hired for a wide variety of corporate functions as well as celebratory and social occasions.
The five-star developer currently has two, three, and four-bed homes for sale at Kings Meadow, the first outlet at the Langford Bridge site, which started construction last year. Its application for the next phase is currently with the local planning authority for consideration.
Persimmon’s outline planning permission allows for up to 450 homes at the development, which is due to include a school and commercial local centre. £2.7m would also be delivered as part of the section 106 agreement, with money going towards playing pitches, bus services, improved cycle and pedestrian connections, a new link road, and territory for cirl bunting.
Persimmon’s Community Champions scheme sees £700,000 donated to good causes and much-valued organisations across Britain each year. Recent local recipients include Newton Abbot Museum, Decoy BMX, Newton Abbot College, and The Lodge Skate Park.
Commenting, Persimmon Homes South West Sales Director Stacey Harris said:
“Persimmon already has a significant presence around Homers Heath as we build hundreds of new homes for local people in Newton Abbot so, naturally, we want to support our neighbours at Buckland Athletic.
“So, we are once again proud to partner with them through our Community Champions programme, especially as the new homes means a new generation of supporters for Buckland Athletic who will, of course, be their local club.”
John Piller, Co-Chairman of Buckland Athletic FC, added:
“Since Persimmon were appointed developers of the land surrounding us, we have enjoyed a very good working relationship and are proud to provide the space for their current sales office at our ground.
“Communication between ourselves and Persimmon has always been positive, and we look forward to working closely together over the coming years.
“On behalf of the football club, I would like to thank Persimmon Homes for their continued support through this Community Champions payment.”
