People across the Bay are being encouraged to join in a brand new walking treasure hunt, with some great prizes to be won along the way.
Each month, from this April, they will be able to take part in a Healthy Selfie, using their mobile phones (and the FREE what3words app) to find locations, answer a quiz question, collect some selfies to submit and learn some new trivia along the way.
The routes, which are all between two and three miles long, will take participants to some great local arts, heritage, and historical sites, as well as places of natural beauty.
There’s a limited edition badge available for the first 100 people who complete each monthly challenge, while for every monthly completed trail, they will gain another entry into our grand prize draw to win prizes up to the value of £1200.
A new route will be released at the start of each month from April 2023 that will take in highly photogenic places across all three towns of our beautiful Bay.
Wherever possible, the routes have been designed to be accessible, with alternative suggestions provided if this is not the case. Suggestions for getting to the start of each of the walks by public transport will also be supplied.
The Healthy Selfie Trail has been commissioned by Torbay Council as part of its Torbay on the Move initiative, which encourages more people to get more active, more often and adopt healthier lifestyles. The trail is being delivered by Tonic Creatives.
Councillor Steve Darling, Leader of Torbay Council, said: “This challenge allows people to get out in the fresh air, get some exercise and enjoy everything the local area has to offer. With spring around the corner and some great prizes to be won, there’s no excuse not to take part.”
Councillor Mike Morey, Torbay Council’s Cabinet Member for Infrastructure, Environment and Culture, said: “Where better than Torbay to take selfies? We have some of the best backdrops in the country! You can do this challenge by teaming up with your family and friends or going solo.”
