Oldway Road will be closed for up to two weeks to allow demolition of an old squash court building in the grounds of Oldway Mansion.
There is already a single carriageway closure but from 25th January to around 5th February, the road will be closed in both directions to allow the work to take place. This will then revert back to a single carriageway closure once the demolition has been completed. Pedestrians will still be able to access the footpath nearby, while vehicles will be able to divert around Laura Grove and Southfield Avenue.
It has been assessed that the old squash court building is severely defective and therefore needs demolishing as soon as possible.
The demolition work will be carried out by Gilpin and the road closure by SWISCo on behalf of TDA and Torbay Council.
Councillor Mike Morey, Cabinet Member for Infrastructure, Environment and Culture for Torbay Council, said: “We recognise this temporary road closure will cause some inconvenience but this work is necessary for safety reasons.”
