Rowcroft launches new dare devil abseil

Are you up for the challenge?

Rowcroft Hospice has announced that it is launching a brand new abseil challenge as part of its Urgent Appeal, and is looking for local thrill-seekers to take part.

Taking place on Saturday 8 April 2017, the exciting new addition to Rowcroft’s fundraising calendar is named Over the Edge – ‘The Drop’.

The hospice is inviting those looking for an adrenalin-fuelled challenge to sign up to ‘The Drop’ – a 100ft abseil from the side of a crane.

Daniel Robson, Rowcroft’s Events Manager, says he is thrilled to be able to offer a new and exciting challenge event to the local community.

He explained: “Over the Edge is fantastic new event for the hospice and is part of a range of initiatives to help us raise extra funds as part of our Urgent Appeal.

“This event will give participants the chance to abseil 100ft off the side of a crane set in the stunning grounds of Rowcroft. As far as I’m aware there is no other abseil like this locally which makes the event one of a kind.”

It is hoped the new event will raise an extra £15,000 for the hospice.

Are you up for the challenge?

Daniel advises that the event does not require any previous abseil experience. He said: “Anyone who weighs up to a maximum of 18 stone, of reasonable health and is over the age of 12 can sign up to take part in this event and full training will be provided on the day.”

All those who take part are also asked to raise funds to help make every day the best day possible for people living with life-limiting illnesses in South Devon.

Heather Mee’s Dad was cared for by Rowcroft in summer 2016: “My beloved dad passed away after having palliative care by Rowcroft. I am shouting from the roof tops to let everyone know about these special angels that walk on this earth!

“My dad was frightened of dying a painful death from pancreatic cancer and he wanted to stay at home, Rowcroft made his wishes possible, we had 24 hour care; an amazing team that blended into the family, with hearts of gold.

“My Dad’s pain was managed so well, that he was able to have the love of his family, in his own home and he passed away peacefully, what more could anyone ask for their loved ones? The hardest weeks of my life were made easier by these amazing people.”

Entry to Rowcroft’s Over the Edge abseil event costs just £15 for 12-16 year olds and £25 for adults. For more information and to sign up, visit www.rowcrofthospice.org.uk/over-the-edge.
