Devon Farm Kitchen, the social enterprise that delivers ‘deliciously satisfying’ frozen meals to people in their own homes across South Devon with every penny of profit going to support Rowcroft Hospice, has more than doubled its delivery area to include the majority of South Devon.
The meals are delivered across an area from Tavistock in the west to Teigmouth and Exminster in the east, Salcombe in the south and Okehampton in the north and includes Ashburton, Chagford and Princetown. Since its launch last year, Devon Farm Kitchen has gone from strength to strength, with over 17,000 meals delivered to date.
“We’ve expanded our delivery area to cope with the high levels of customer demand,” said Devon Farm Kitchen Manager Joe Bradshaw. “We are providing a unique service in supplying our customers with delicious hand cooked frozen meals that are nutritionally balanced and carefully crafted from the best local ingredients. Our customers tell us that our food is far superior to other brands on the market, and they take great satisfaction that all profits from their purchases go to support Rowcroft Hospice in delivering essential care and support to patients with life-limiting illnesses across South Devon. Our motto is local food for local people while supporting local care.”
The meals are handmade in small batches by Devon Farm Kitchen’s own chefs in their Torquay kitchen using the finest produce sourced directly from Devon’s farmers, fishing communities and other local producers. The menu boasts a mouth-watering selection of tasty soups, starters, mains (including gluten-free, vegan and vegetarian options) and desserts. Top-selling dishes include Devonshire roast beef and Yorkshire pudding, lamb loin, sausages and mash, roast chicken, Brixham fish pie and vegetable curry. Popular desserts include orchard apple crumble, jam roly poly, and chocolate and walnut pudding.
Offering a convenient and luxury dine-in experience, the frozen meals are delivered to customers ready to heat on ceramic plates and bowls which are then washed and returned to the driver on the next delivery. There’s no plastic involved and the cardboard packaging is 100% carbon neutral, fully compostable and 100% recyclable.
The freshly frozen meals are also highly nutritional because they’ve been developed with advice and input from dietitians. Devon Farm Kitchen prides itself on fulfilling an important service for local people, particularly elderly and vulnerable people, who may be unable or uninclined to prepare healthy meals for themselves.
“We’re providing a unique service to our community by lovingly crafting nutritious meals that encourage healthy eating, and by generating profits that help sustain the expert care that Rowcroft Hospice provides to patients across the region,” said Joe Bradshaw. “I’d like to say a huge thank you to all our customers for supporting us and for helping us to raise essential funds to care for local patients.”
All profits from Devon Farm Kitchen go to support Rowcroft in caring for patients with life-limiting illnesses, and their families, across 300 square miles of South Devon. The charity cares for over 2000 patients each year, with 80% of people cared for in their own homes across the region.
