The ladies of South Devon are set to shimmer and shine this summer as they step out together for the region’s biggest girls’ night out, in aid of their local hospice, Rowcroft.
Fizzing with fun and better than ever, the ninth annual Sleep Walk for Rowcroft Hospice on Saturday 6 July will see hundreds of women and girls aged eight and over getting their glow on to enjoy the buzzing party atmosphere of the sponsored nightwalk, choosing a five or ten-mile route.
Registration is open for the not-to-be-missed event, which has been given an all-new ‘girls’ night out’ and glitter themed look and feel that’s bound to be popular with female supporters of the much-loved charity.
This popular event also has a new start and finish venue – the Riviera International Conference Centre, Torquay – with set-off times at 7, 7.30 or 8pm just in time to catch the beautiful sunset over the Bay. Every step taken will support Rowcroft in continuing to provide specialist care for local patients and families living with life-limiting illness.
As well as some exciting new surprises along the way, ladies familiar to the event will see the much-loved Lights of love candle lit display return which offers an opportunity to remember that special person while making new moonlit memories with family and friends.
Among those stepping out this year is Helen Moorhouse, who has first-hand experience of the outstanding support Rowcroft Hospice provides and the compassion of its team. Helen’s partner Paul was cared for by Rowcroft before he passed away last December at the hospice.
When Helen explained it was the couple’s dream to be married after 25 years together, staff helped create an extra special wedding day – an occasion the couple feared would never come following Paul’s terminal cancer diagnosis. Exactly a week before he passed away at the Inpatient Unit, the bride and groom took their vows, surrounded by family, friends and the Rowcroft team.
Helen said: “Rowcroft didn’t just look after Paul as a patient, they looked after me as well. On dark days, I remember our beautiful wedding day and all the lovely Rowcroft staff who ensured everything was just right.
When I came to Rowcroft, I became Paul’s wife not just his carer. It’s such an important place and you never know if you’re going to need it. Fundraising is my way of supporting them in return. I’ll be taking part in The Sleep Walk in memory of Paul and I know he’ll be with me every step of the way.”
Stewart Molyneux, Events Manager at Rowcroft, said: “The Sleep Walk really is the perfect opportunity for ladies to get together and enjoy a brilliant night out to remember. There is something special about lots of women joining forces to show their support for Rowcroft, and we can’t wait to see them! We’re asking them to raise as much as sponsorship as possible for our charity – it’s this that helps ensure we continue to make a vital difference to the many patients and families in South Devon who desperately need our care and support.” To sign up for The Sleep Walk, visit www.rowcroftsleepwalk.org.uk.
