Tesco customers in Newton Abbot are being encouraged to gift toys for local children in need ahead of Christmas.
Until 10 December, the Newton Road Superstore is organising a collection of new toys in store before then sharing them with The Salvation Army.
All toys collected will be donated to children who might otherwise go without this Christmas.
Janette Parker, the store’s community champion, said: “This is the sixth year we have organised this Toy Appeal and we are always amazed at how generous people are.
“In times like this when everyone finds it more difficult to make ends meet, we’ve still ended up with lots of toys to distribute. It’s incredible.
“In order to make this year as successful as the previous ones, we do of course need our customers’ help again. The collection is for new toys, not second-hand ones.
“All the donations will go to local families who maybe find buying presents really difficult because of other commitments.
“With the help of our customers, we want to ensure that children in those families will have a present to open on Christmas Day.”
Customers are invited to donate new toys at the front of the store in a specially designated trolley.
Claire De Silva, Head of Community at Tesco, said: “Our stores work so hard throughout the year to support their communities by donating food and helping children have a stronger start in life.
“It is fantastic that customers in Newton Abbot are supporting such an important cause this Christmas.”
