Sister Act joins annual sleep walk in aid of local hospice

Paignton Specsavers staff have played homage to their favourite film Sister Act as part of this years’ charity walk to raise cash for Rowcroft Hospice.

Staff from the store raised funds and joined more than 500 walkers in the Sleep Walk event on Saturday 2 July with everyone taking part raising tens of thousands for the hospice.

With this year’s theme of ‘Saturday night at the movies’, the team from Specsavers chose their favourite film, Sister Act. They were joined by hundreds of other fundraisers parading their top film-star fancy dress costumes from Top Gun, 101 Dalmatians and Jurassic Park.

Karen Stone, Specsavers Paignton and Totnes partner says: ‘We love this film and thought what a great opportunity to dress up, have fun and raise funds for a great local cause. It was great to see everyone having fun after what has been a tough couple of years for many and we would like to thank everyone who sponsored us!’

Karen adds: ‘ Behind the costumes there is a serious message and I think it’s safe to say that the hospice plays a massive part in the community and we all know someone who has been supported by this amazing place. We look forward to next year and raising more cash for our local charity.’

According to the charity, Rowcroft is experiencing an escalating demand for hospice services across South Devon, and the need for care has never been greater.
The funds raised through this event will support local families in so many important ways by paying for 300 bereavement support sessions for grieving relatives, giving crucial emotional and psychological support through the most difficult of times, 400 music therapy sessions and 600 complementary therapy sessions – such as massage, relaxation or reflexology – helping patients to relax and easing tension.
