South Devon fire fighters battled a major blaze in East Allington last night
The fire service were called to reports of a roof fire at a farmhouse around 9.40pm.
Initially three fire appliances from Kingsbridge, Modbury and Salcombe were mobilised to the incident along with the Water Carrier from Torquay.
On arrival crews requested back up and a appliance from Dartmouth was mobilised. The Incident Command Unit from Totnes was also mobilised to this incident.
Four appliances from Ivybridge, Dartmouth, Plymton and Brixham were later mobilised.
Crews worked to stop the fire which was fanned by strong winds.
Compressed air foam jets were used to protect adjacent barns.
The fire service stated that 100% of the roof was been severely damaged by fire, 80% of the first floor was damaged by heat, smoke and water and 70% of the ground floor was been damaged by water.
The fire was accidental and fire investigation work will be undertaken in daylight hours to ascertain the source of ignition.
