Waitrose stores in Teignmouth and Torquay are set to close it has been revealed today, Wednesday 6th March.
The news was announced to shocked staff today.
Both of the South Devon stores, owned by John Lewis replaced other big named stores. Torquay Waitrose took over premises from Somerfield in 2009 and Teignmouth Waitrose took over from Co-op in 2014. The Torquay store in Plainmoor has almost 100 staff.
The stores will be are being sold to another retailer, which has not yet been named. The stores are due to close on 9th June. The nearest Waitrose for people in South Devon will be the Exeter store.
Torbay MP Kevin Foster said on Twitter: “Sad to hear this news of Torquay waitrose closing, another sign of a changing High St. If you or a family member affected and my team or I can be of assistance do get in touch”
