South West netball team score developer donation

Persimmon Homes South West has donated £1,000 to Teignmouth Thunderbirds Netball Club CASC as they became the latest winners of the developer’s Community Champions scheme.

The club – known as the TBirds – is an award-winning, not-for-profit grassroots community netball club that began 10 years ago, which has welcomed over a thousand players since its establishment.

The funding will go towards a portable fully automatic defibrillator, which can be taken to the club’s training sessions, matches, and first aid training. The club currently has around 75 members from the wider community, comprising two teams playing in the popular Exeter & District Netball League.

The five-star developer currently has two, three, and four-bed homes for sale from £250,000 at Kings Meadow, the first outlet at the Langford Bridge site, which started construction last year. Its application for the next phase is currently with the local planning authority for consideration.

Persimmon’s outline planning permission allows for up to 450 homes at the development, which is due to include a school and commercial local centre. £2.7m would also be delivered as part of the section 106 agreement, with money going towards playing pitches, bus services, improved cycle and pedestrian connections, a new link road, and territory for cirl bunting.

Persimmon’s Community Champions scheme sees £700,000 donated to good causes and much-valued organisations across Britain each year. Recent local recipients include Newton Abbot Museum, Decoy BMX, Newton Abbot College, Buckland Athletic AFC, and The Lodge Skate Park.

Commenting, Persimmon Homes South West Sales Director Stacey Harris said:

“Persimmon is always happy to support local organisations like the TBirds so they can continue to offer excellent sports provision in the community, especially when they might have plenty of members coming from our new Langford Bridge site in the coming years.

“Team sports is a great way to keep fit both physically and emotionally, and we would love for residents in our new developments and the future generations that follow to have the chance to play for such a great club.”

Angela Rimmer, Chair of Teignmouth Thunderbirds Netball Club added:

“We’re thrilled to have secured this funding and thank Persimmon for choosing us. TBirds is an award-winning grassroots community club that is proud to offer a safe and supportive environmental for participants.

“The donation will help us buy new equipment and quality first aid training, which is crucial in sport for several reasons. It will empower individuals to recognize and respond to various sports-related injuries and emergencies, ultimately contributing to the overall well-being of athletes and coaches.”
