South West Water, part of Pennon Group, has shown its direct support for veterans by signing the Armed Forces Covenant.
The region’s water company signed the Covenant in Falmouth last Friday (23 June) as part of Armed Forces Week at a ceremony onboard the Frigate. The Covenant was co-signed by the Ministry of Defence.
The important pledge solidifies South West Water’s commitment to those who serve and have served in the armed forces, to recruit, train and develop veterans as part of Pennon’s 3,300 strong team.
As the largest employer in the region, with a strong commitment to providing jobs in the community, South West Water knows veterans bring vast experience, passion, and add to the diversity of their teams, and in turn the communities it serves.
South West Water will also set up an internal Veterans Network Group, providing a safe space for veteran colleagues to access support and advice whenever they need it.
Susan Davy, Chief Executive Officer, Pennon Group, said: “South West Water signing the Armed Forces Covenant is not just a symbolic gesture towards our veterans, but a tangible commitment to them and their families to ensure that they receive the recognition, support and opportunities that they deserve.
“By upholding the Covenant, we can honour the sacrifices of those who have served our country and help them successfully transition into civilian life, ensuring that their skills and experiences are valued and utilised to their fullest potential.”
Del Folds, Operations Manager at South West Water and Royal Navy Veteran, said “From our experience, veterans bring a unique set of skills and experiences that exemplifies discipline, adaptability, and a strong work ethic that is second to none.”
“We are proud to support the recruitment of veterans to our diverse and inclusive teams. We offer various career opportunities that complement the expertise and training of our veterans. By signing the Covenant, we hope veterans will see how committed we are as a business to supporting their future careers opportunities.”
