Newton Abbot-based home appliance retailer Sparkworld is marking its 40th anniversary in the most heartwarming way – by joining Rowcroft Hospice’s Big Bake! Sparkworld last took part in The Rowcroft Big Bake back in 2016, incredibly raising over £2000 to support local people living with life-limiting illnesses. Now they’re donning their aprons and firing up the ovens once again, and inviting you to join them for two fun-filled hours of cake, community spirit and fundraising.
Taking place on Wednesday 4 June in Sparkworld’s stunning kitchen showroom on Battle Road, Heathfield Industrial Estate, Newton Abbot between 4.30pm and 6.30pm, this year’s Big Bake is shaping up to be a real showstopper. Thanks to the generous support of their suppliers, Sparkworld has curated an amazing raffle with prizes from top household names like Liebherr, Bosch, Sony, Ninja, LG, and more. Raffle tickets are available to buy online on Sparkworld’s website at www.sparkworld.co.uk
For the bake-off champion, NEFF have donated a phenomenal prize – £1,500 worth of NEFF appliances. Sparkworld still has a few places available for any budding baker to show off their talent. On the day, your fantastic bakes will be judged by: Tom Dalton of Quantum Kitchens; Chloe Howard of Chloe Bakes in Ashburton; and Lisa Whittaker, Corporate Fundraiser at Rowcroft Hospice.
Tristan Cook, Director at Sparkworld, shares what Rowcroft Hospice means to him and why the team is proud to be baking for a cause:
“Rowcroft is a fantastic local charity that we’ve been proud to support over the years. As a Torquinian myself, I know just how much it means to people across Torbay and the surrounding areas. The care Rowcroft provides is exceptional – it’s there for people when they need it most.
“With around 75% of Rowcroft’s funding coming from donations and fundraising, the hospice relies heavily on the generosity of our community. It’s this support that helps them continue their outstanding work across South Devon, caring for those living with life-limiting illnesses.
“I did a sky dive for Rowcroft in my younger years – but these days, eating cake feels like a much better idea! Our amazing team are excited to welcome everyone to our kitchen showroom on 4 June 2025 for the bake-off and raffle draw. Sparkworld is proud to support Rowcroft and its amazing work.”
Lisa Whittaker, Corporate Fundraiser at Rowcroft Hospice, expressed her gratitude:
“We’re so incredibly thankful to Sparkworld for their amazing support. Their generosity will make such a meaningful difference in caring for local families who are facing the hardest of times.
“With World Baking Day on Saturday 17 May, this is the perfect time to get creative in the kitchen and raise some vital funds for Rowcroft by organising your very own Big Bake! Whether you’re an enthusiastic baker or just enjoy a good slice of cake, the Big Bake is the perfect opportunity to gather friends, family, or colleagues to have fun and raise money for a meaningful cause. Host a cosy coffee morning, a garden tea party, a bake-off competition, or a cake sale at work or school – the options are endless! We’d love as many people as possible to get involved.”
