Torbay Sports is inviting providers to bid for money which will allow them to widen their provision by offering new sessions for groups and participants who wouldn’t normally get active.
Awards of up to £2,500 are available under Back to Sport 2, part of the council’s Torbay on the Move initiative for 2022/23.
The focus is on inclusivity, showing the council’s commitment to supporting the health and wellbeing of residents who wouldn’t usually turn to physical activity and sport as a means of improving their overall wellbeing.
Funds are available for project costs such as facility hire and coaching, as well as for small capital improvements.
An Activity Delivery award could include financial help hosting an event, activity or performance, or perhaps setting up a pilot project or starting a new group.
The fund is aimed at supporting projects that bring a community together and provide opportunities for people who may be less physically active.
Organisations should consider how they can work more collaboratively across their community to make the biggest possible impact.
The council’s priority is to support projects working with people from disadvantaged communities. This could be a community facing socio-economic disadvantage or people with multiple needs.
Cllr Mike Morey, Cabinet Member for Infrastructure, Environment and Culture, said: “The heart of all sport and physical activity is in our local clubs, community groups and activity providers. The last two years have had a catastrophic impact on sports clubs and participation in sports in general. Sport and physical activity are vital to people’s mental health and general wellbeing.
“We consider investment in sport as a priority and this ongoing funding demonstrates that. We hope this fund can make a real difference to the local community, reaching those who would not usually participate, especially those from disadvantaged communities.”
