Community groups and residents who would like to hold a street party are encouraged to discuss plans with their neighbours and local businesses. This will make sure that everyone has the opportunity to be involved in the commemoration.

Councillor Jacqueline Thomas, Cabinet Member for Tourism, Culture & Events and Corporate Services for Torbay Council said: “The 80thanniversaries of VE Day and VJ Day are a significant opportunity to commemorate the Allied victory in Europe and the end of the Second World War. The commemorations will act as a point of remembrance of the millions who lost their lives in the conflict, as well as a celebration of peace.
“I’m sure that many of our local communities will want to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day by getting together with neighbours and friends. I’d encourage people thinking of holding a street party to advise us of their plans to allow commemorations to take place on 5 May.”
Further details on how to organise and apply for a street party, including deadlines for road closure applications, are available on the events pages of Torbay Council’s website.
