Two patients at Torbay hospital who tested positive for the coronavirus have died.
Both patients were in their 80s and had underlying health conditions.
As it stands, 167 people have died in England, six in Scotland, three in Wales and one in Northern Ireland – taking the total in the UK to 177.
All fatalities were were aged between 50 and 99 years old and had underlying health conditions.
Following news of confirmed COVID-19 a Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust spokesperson said:
“Sadly, we can confirm that two patients who were being cared for at Torbay Hospital, and had tested positive for COVID-19, have died.
“The patients, who were both in their 80s had underlying health conditions.
“Their families have been informed and our thoughts and condolences are with them at this difficult and distressing time. We will not be making any further statement.”
