TDA invite applications from young people to sit on Torquay Town Deal Town Board

In October 2020 Torbay Council secured £21.9 million investment from the Government’s Towns Fund. The Towns Fund provides Torquay with a once in a generation opportunity to bring about significant change with a focus on the town centre and is being used to deliver innovative regeneration and transformational projects as set out in the Torquay Town Investment Plan.

The Torquay Town Deal board was created to oversee the production of the Town Investment Plan. It now supports the work of TDA who are charged with planning and implementation of the Town Investment Plan, on behalf of Torbay Council and right now, there is an opportunity for young people, aged 16-24 to join the community and/or full board.

Councillor Swithin Long, Cabinet Member for Economic Regeneration, Tourism and Housing, Torbay Council, said; “It is vital that young people are involved and get the chance to hear what is happening in their local area and help to shape its future. Not only is this an exciting opportunity to sit on the Town Board, but one that can make a real difference. If you’re interested, please do step forward and apply.”

Vince Flower, Chair of the Town Board, said; “The new academic year sees our previous members move on, so we are on the lookout for a positive and dedicated young person, or people looking to share a place on the board.”

This is an exciting time to join, as the first phase of the Town Investment Plan takes shape, and we progress our ambitious plans to revitalise and regenerate the town further using the significant investment Torquay has been awarded.”

The ideal applicant will be community minded and ready to support the development and delivery of the Town Deal in Torquay. Board members are expected to help inform plans as they develop, ask questions and will hear some details at an early and sensitive time in projects so will need to understand that there will be confidential information shared.”

Successful applicants will be aged under 25 and expected to show an enthusiasm for the regeneration of Torquay and be willing to communicate and work effectively with a wide range of people. On average it will involve commitment of around one day per month, with possibly a greater commitment at certain times.
