Ambulance attended the scene and the boy was taken to Torbay District Hospital where he is in a serious but stable condition. His next of kin have been informed.

A 16-year-old boy from Torquay, who is believed to have been known to the victim, has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm (GBH) and remains in custody. Another boy, aged 14, was also arrested on suspicion of GBH.

DI Prav Naidoo said: “We are in the very early stages of our investigation in establishing the circumstances surrounding this incident. Our officers remain in the area to carry out enquiries and conduct searches to assist in the investigation.

“We have scene guards currently in place on Carlton Road and at the McDonald’s restaurant on Hele Road and road closures in place on Belmont Road and Carlton Road.

“We are aware that there may be footage circulating on social media which we would like to remind people not to share on social media but instead send to police.

“We are also appealing for witnesses and would like to hear from anyone with dashcam, doorbell or CCTV footage between the areas of Carlton Road, Belmont Road and Hele Road.

“Anyone with information which may assist police on this case is asked to contact 101 or via our website quoting log 836 of the 6th of October.

“You can also pass information in relation to this incident anonymously to independent charity Crimestoppers online at https://crowd.in/NjOnfR or by phone 0800 555 111.”
