Search and Rescue volunteers were called to Dartmoor yesterday, Sunday 17th May to reports of a teenager stuck on a rock.
Emergency services were alerted to the incident yesterday afternoon after a 13-year-old boy climbed to the top of Cuckoo Rock but was unable to make his own way down.
Police also attended the incident near Burrator Reservoir.
Dartmoor Search and Rescue team-Tavistock posted on Facebook: “After a quiet period during Covid-19 lockdown we were called at 15:44 by the Police to assist with an incident at Cuckoo Rock, near Combeshead Tor. A 13 year old in a family group had climbed to the top of Cuckoo Rock, but then lacked the confidence to climb down safely. We deployed a limited number of members, to make it easier to maintain social distancing, to the incident site and used a rope system to allow a member to ascend to the young lad and then safely assist him back down to the ground with the use of a “recovery nappy”. The Police officers in attendance walked the family back to Norsworthy car park while our members derigged the ropes before returning to the RV point.”
