Teignmouth turns multi-coloured for Rowcroft Hospice

Yesterday, 800 participants took part in a 5k route along Teignmouth Beach whilst being showered in two tonnes of rainbow-coloured powder paint.

The fundraising event has pledged to raise an incredible £46,000 to help support local people with life-limiting illnesses across South Devon.

Kipp Clarke, 24 from London, and the first Colour Rusher to complete the 5k with a time of 18 minutes said: “I’m staying with my grandparents for the weekend, so I thought I would get involved with this great cause. It was a lot of fun with all of the crazy colours!”

The event village displayed a variety of games and activities for everyone involved to enjoy – one of which saw Mark Hawkins, Rowcroft’s CEO be dunked in the ‘dunk tank’ all in aid of Rowcroft Hospice.

Participants also enjoyed an afternoon of live music from local bands including The Kaizens, Buried Hedz, Rich Cottell, and the Screemin’ Weesels.

Stewart Molyneux, Rowcroft’s Events Manager said: “Rowcroft cares for over 2,000 people across South Devon every year; helping them to make every day, the best day possible.”

“We are so thrilled and humbled to have the ongoing support from the local communities. We cannot thank the participants enough for their generous support.”

The event was also supported by a number of local businesses and a team of volunteers.

Stewart added: “We would also like to thank our amazing volunteers, who have given up their time to make the event happen. It is because of you that we are able to run these events and ensure that our participants have the very best experience.”

For many local people The Colour Rush isn’t just about having fun; it’s a chance to celebrate the life of a loved one and to raise much needed funds for the local hospice.

Kelly Evans, 34 from Newton Abbot said: “It was really good fun. The kids loved every single minute of it. We are running in memory of family today as Rowcroft recently cared for our Uncle Steve and for our Grandmother 6 years ago.”
