Community-minded colleagues at Newton Abbot’s Tesco Superstore set about improving their neighbourhood with a day-long litter pickup.
Ten members of staff from the Tesco Superstore on Newton Road walked up and down the street, collecting rubbish as they went.
They filled 10 bags with a wide range of thrown-away items – including umbrellas, car mats and takeaway boxes.
Janette Parker, community champion at the Newton Abbot Tesco Superstore, said: “Pre-COVID we were doing this regularly but we had to stop it for a while, which is a shame because we were enjoying making a real difference to our community.
“The council has a good street-cleaning team to do this sort of thing, but it’s amazing how quickly the litter builds up. It’s a shame people don’t take their rubbish home with them.
“But we’re passionate about looking after the area where we live and work, so we’ll continue doing this for as long as we’re able.”
