The countdown has begun for the colour road rush

With just one month to go, the countdown has officially begun for South Devon’s most talked about event – the Colour Road Rush!

Linden Homes and Galliford Try are inviting local people to take part in a one-off three kilometre paint run on the brand new South Devon Link Road, to raise much-needed funds for Rowcroft Hospice.

Entrants will be able to walk or run on a section of the new dual carriageway, while being blasted with washable paint at designated paint stations, on Saturday 1st August.

The non-competitive event is open to everyone aged 13 and over but, with just 1,000 spaces available, anyone interested in taking part is encouraged to register as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

Nigel Palmer, managing director for Linden Homes South West, said: “As part of the Galliford Try Group, we’re thrilled to be involved in this exciting event. We contribute a huge amount to the area, in terms of homes and infrastructure, and we’re delighted to be celebrating the work in such a colourful way – raising much needed funds for a very worthwhile charity.”

Galliford Try executive chairman Greg Fitzgerald added his support: “Being a South Devon local, Rowcroft Hospice is a charity close to my heart. It’s great we can provide such a unique venue for this exciting event. So I would urge everybody to register to enter and put a bit of colour in your life!”

Giles Charnaud, chief executive of Rowcroft Hospice said: “I am delighted Rowcroft Hospice is working with Linden Homes and Galliford Try to stage this event on the new link road.

“The road has been awaited for many decades and to be part of celebrating its imminent opening is a fabulous opportunity. We want to join with our community of South Devon, to live life in full colour, to place our mark on something remarkable and to say ‘I was there and it was colourful and memorable’.”

Entry is free if you sign up to a £5 monthly regular gift for the hospice. Alternatively you can raise sponsorship for Rowcroft and agree to pay a £20 entry fee to cover the costs of putting on the event. All funds raised from the event will help Rowcroft to continue providing its vital care across South Devon.

This charity event is taking place in addition to the community open day, which will take place on 25 July. This event aims to celebrate the construction of the road, whilst providing attendees with a behind the scenes view.
