Torbay Council and Public Health say ‘remember the rules ahead of the lockdown’

In anticipation of the new national lockdown measures which could start within hours, Torbay Council and Public Health are appealing to those that may be heading out today for one last hurrah with their family and friends to remember the rules ahead of lockdown.

The message is clear ‘the lockdown is not about spoiling your social life, it is about reducing the infection rate of a virus which has had and is continuing to have a devastating impact on families, businesses and the NHS’.

Councillor Steve Darling, Leader of Torbay Council, said; “We know that people will be looking to go out with their family and friends for one last time today before the proposed national lockdown starts. If you have plans to go out, please ensure you stay within your own group (of 6) and to make sure you follow all current social distancing rules and guidance in place at hospitality venues”.

Dr Caroline Dimond, Director of Public Health, said; “One of the most effective ways of reducing the spread of the virus is to reduce our day-to-day contact with other people. That’s why I’m asking you to think COVID, follow the guidance and keep up the efforts we continue to make to protect our loved ones and the NHS”.

Remember you can’t see COVID-19 and people you meet may have mild symptoms or no symptoms at all.

If you do have any symptoms, it is essential that you self-isolate and arrange to get tested. Whilst waiting for your test results you must continue to self-isolate whether or not you still have the symptoms, to prevent the virus being passed on to others.
