There has been some confusion over where the speed limit would change

Posting on Facebook, Torquay Council explained:

“From the roundabout at Preston Down Road to the roundabout at Gallows Gate, this stretch of dual carriageway will continue to be the national speed limit.
The change to speed limit will take place as you approach Gallows Gate roundabout, where it will be reduced from the current national speed limit to 40 mph. This change brings the roundabout into line with the 40 mph speed limit on Marldon Road heading into Shiphay as well as matching the limits on all the other approaches to the other roundabouts on the ring road.

“As you continue over Gallows Gate roundabout the speed limit will increase to 50 mph, as it has been since the opening of the South Devon Highway. The 50 mph speed limit covers the whole of the hill, until you reach the Edginswell junction at the bottom. Driving up Hellevoetsluis Way to Gallows Gate, the limit here will also be staying the same, which is the national speed limit,”
