Torbay Culture seeks Ambassadors

People from Brixham, Paignton and Torquay are invited to become ‘Culture Ambassadors’ for Torbay.

Culture Ambassadors will be positive champions for the bay, and will take part in events, festivals and creative projects as volunteers. They will have the opportunity to benefit from free training to equip them with new skills and knowledge. They will also be invited to become part of focus groups, help with audience research and maybe even become mystery shoppers.

Torbay Culture is delivering projects and working with partners to make Torbay a better place to live, work and visit. They are seeking volunteers to spread the word and to help local events to thrive.

Martin Thomas, Executive Director of Torbay Culture said: “We aim to develop a group of ‘go to’ people who are friendly, well-informed ambassadors for Torbay, who are passionate about culture and who will support a variety of projects in a number of ways.”

As well as giving their time for the benefit of local people and visitors to Torbay, Culture Ambassadors will have the opportunity to be part of something which helps to improve self-confidence and brings them into contact with all sorts of people. Anna Gilroy, Culture Ambassador programme co-ordinator said: “We want everyone who joins our Culture Ambassador scheme to have a positive experience. We want to provide useful training and also social experiences for those taking part. We appreciate that many people volunteer to make new friends as well as learning something new.”

Culture Ambassadors will be invited to volunteer at a range of events including performances, outdoor events, festivals and community projects. One such opportunity this year will be ‘Eyeview’, a brand new programme of cultural projects, events and happenings across Torbay which will offer fresh perspectives on the places and spaces that make Torbay unique.

Volunteer roles might include event marshalling, talking to audience members about their experience, or support behind the scenes such as marketing and research.

Anyone interested in becoming a Culture Ambassador can find out more and sign up via Torbay Culture’s website: https://www.torbayculture.org/volunteering
