One of the most prominent and historic road running events in the South West of England will once again be part of the athletics calendar when it returns this Autumn.
Taurus Events, who organise Britain’s Ocean Running Festival in Plymouth, will take over the delivery of the event with the support and guidance of Torbay Athletic Club, who have developed the half marathon since 1992.
The event is due to be staged on Sunday 29th September and will feature a route taking in some of the spectacular coastline of the English Riviera in South Devon.
Suzi Cumberland, Managing Director of Taurus Events, said, “We are proud to take over the organisation of this wonderful event, in one of the most beautiful and iconic locations in the UK. Building on the hard work of Torbay Athletic Club, we not only want to ensure that the Torbay Half Marathon is an event for the region but also to make it a destination event for runners from across the nation.”
Greg Fine, Chairman of Torbay Athletic Club, said “The Torbay Half Marathon has always been a highly anticipated and popular fixture on the running calendar, and we’re pleased to continue our support. From our conversations with Taurus Events, it’s clear that they will bring new energy and ideas to the event weekend.”
The return of the event has been welcomed by both local and National charities, as it facilitates thousands of pounds being raised by runners for good causes. Britain’s Ocean City Running Festival participants raise over £350,000 each year for many causes that are close to them, and it is anticipated that up to 50% of competitors in Torbay will take part for charity.
The Torbay Half Marathon is known for its vibrant atmosphere and fantastic crowd support and Taurus Events plan to build upon this, using innovative measures to enhance the participant experience and ensure it is a celebration of running for all abilities.
