Torbay’s Multicultural Network is hosting a new diversity and inclusion workshop for local organisations.

The Torbay Multicultural Network was launched In September 2021 by local non-profit community organisation Engaging Communities South West, with the support of Torbay Council and Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service. It is made up of local people from different ethnic minority groups and diverse backgrounds who work to support the ethnic minority community in Torbay’s public, private and community sectors, working alongside the Torbay Racism Review Panel.

Following on from their pop up events at Paignton Library’s Community Hub, the Network are now hosting a new workshop for local organisations to learn more about ways they can incorporate diversity, inclusion and values – such as respect and equity – into the work of their organisation. It will also focus on any challenges that may be faced while doing this and ways to overcome these.

The workshop will include presentations from network members on breaking down stereotypes, equality, diversity and inclusion in the workplace and how to connect different people and communities. It will also exhibit the results of a recent survey held by the network which aimed to better understand the challenges local people face while incorporating diversity and inclusion into their personal and work life.

The Torbay Multicultural Network Diversity and Inclusion Workshop takes place on Monday 25th September, 12-2pm. It is being run as an online meeting via Zoom.

Engaging Communities South West’s Emilia Smith, who coordinates the Torbay Multicultural Network, said: “The workshop will be an open, respectful and non-judgemental environment, with break out rooms, open discussions, quizzes and the chance to ask questions and chat with the group and network members. The network are very excited to be offering this workshop to local organisations and very much look forward to working with them in future to tackle any potential social inequalities triggered by racial and ethnic prejudices and discrimination. We hope to see lots of local communities and organisations represented there.”
