Torquay Home Bargains opens this weekend

Home Bargains has invested approximately £500k in its new store in Torquay, which will be officially opened at 8.00 am on Saturday 3rd July 2021.

As one of the UK’s largest family-run retailers, Home Bargains is creating 68 new jobs in the local community with its store on Stephenson Way. In total, the store will employ 70 team members, including a couple of staff who will be transferring from local stores.

It will also be donating £2,000 to local charity St. Marychurch Pre-school, which aims to provide a safe, stimulating, caring and happy pre-school where all children and their families are welcome. The pre-school, which has operated in the Parish Hall since the late 1970s, is run by experienced staff and is managed by a committee of parents.

Johanne Pickering, one of the practitioners at St. Marychurch Pre-school, said: “St. Marychurch Pre-school is very excited that Home Bargains is now opening nearer to us in Torquay. We appreciate being chosen as the charity to receive this donation, which will support the local families and children in our community.”

The new Torquay store will join over 500 outlets across the UK. Opening approximately 50 stores a year, Home Bargains is bucking current trends in the industry.

Nathan Debroize, the new Torquay store manager, said: “It’s a huge honour to be opening our new Torquay store this weekend and something that I’m exceptionally proud of.

“Having started my Home Bargains journey just over 7 years ago, it’s amazing to now be in this position. And, although I’ve held the position of store manager in some other stores, helping to launch the new Wren Retail Park site will be a first for me.”

The 14,693 sq ft store, which formerly housed Mothercare, will offer shoppers a range of products, including homewares, health and beauty essentials, sweets, snacks and drinks, as well as fresh and frozen food.

Nathan added: “Wren Retail Park will be a great location for us and we’re proud to be able to offer local people top-branded goods at exceptionally low prices.”

With more than five million customers each week, Home Bargains is one of the country’s best-loved discount retailers, stocking top-quality branded goods at low prices.
