Online appeal after Torquay Man shot in the head in Antigua

A man from Torquay who was shot in the head during a robbery at his parents’ restaurant in Antigua on Christmas day is being flown back to the UK today by air ambulance.

A crowdfunding campaign raised over £100000 to pay for his flight.

Christopher Tester, 37, is due to land at Exeter later tonight, he will then be transferred to Derriford hospital.

A spokesperson said in an update on a Facebook page:
“The air ambulance transferring Chris back to the UK has had to drop to fly at sea level altitude. This is to ensure there isn’t a pressure build up that could cause extreme pain for Chris.

“This also has an impact on our appeal. Dropping to sea altitude means an expected surcharge. At this time we are not sure what this additional cost will be. So please keep sharing the crowdfunding page so we can help to cover this cost. Thank you so much,”
