Torre Abbey is holding two events throughout April to raise awareness and support for the Great Big Rhino Project taking place throughout the local area.
The first event watches five professional artists paint life-size sculptures of a rhino in the Spanish Barn, which will then be displayed in the grounds of the historic house. This event will take place from 9 March to 14 April, with individual artists occupying the space at each time.
The other event organised for all members of the family to get involved with is a creative workshop. The workshop will include making a meadow of flowers from plastic recycled materials which will be used as part of the display for the finished, painted rhino.
The workshop will take place on Tues 29 March, Friday 1, Tuesday 5 and Friday 8 April. The cost per child is £3.50 and £5 for each accompanying adult, including entry to the attraction and workshop activities.
Executive Lead for Tourism, Culture and Harbours, Councillor Nicole Amil, said: The Great Big Rhino Project is a wonderful campaign to support rhino conservation. I urge you to get involved with the events happening at the Abbey to support the campaign.”
Visitors to the Abbey can browse a shop with a range of souvenirs, gifts and books or sit down and relax with a drink, snack or light meal in the beautifully decorated shabby chic Abbey Tearoom.
The Great Big Rhino Project will bring a world class mass public art event to the streets, parks and open spaces of the English Riviera and Exeter.
For ten weeks in the summer of 2016, life-size rhino sculptures will inhabit the streets, showcasing the wealth of artistic talent in the area, while highlighting the significant conservation threat facing wild rhinos and how the local business community can make a difference.
