A local female firefighter is running a six week programme to help you get fire-fighting fit. Alex Leslie has been a personal trainer for 10 years, and after 4 years in the fire service has found the perfect way to combine the two.
The group workouts will focus on functional fitness, and training will be done using real firefighting equipment – such as hoses, sandbags and even weighted dummies.
Speaking on the firefit camp, Alex said “Helping people has always been part of me and my life but gyms have not. Going to a big public gym has never excited me, I have always preferred outdoor activities or exercise that doesn’t make me feel like I’m doing exercise.
“There isn’t a huge choice of exercise classes or gyms in Totnes so here’s something new and exciting!”
“Training for the fire service is hard and physically and mentally demanding but so much fun and exciting. I am running IGNITE for 6 weeks starting on the 5th of March. It will mimic as much as possible what we do on the ground at incidents as well as our drill nights”
